Process
Appointment
We kindly request that you make an appointment before visiting our shop. Please email us at info@yoheifukuda.com or use the Contact Form provided on this website.
Design and Details
At your appointment we will provide our expert advice to help you choose the shoe design and details that will best suit you.
Try fitting shoes
We have range of fitting shoes for you to try. We will check the fitting with you and explain how we change the last for your bespoke shoes.
Measurements
During the appointment we will gain a thorough understanding of your foot from our fitting samples, the taking of your measurements, and photos to document your foot’s characteristics.
Last Making
From the information taken during your appointment, we make a personalized wooden last based upon your measurements and style preferences that will be used to make your shoe.
Pattern Making
A pattern is prepared, checked, and then re-made before cutting out the leather pieces that will be used to make the uppers of your trial fitting shoe.
Upper Making
The pieces are sewn together to make the trial fitting uppers, which use the same leather as the final shoe and feature all of the final shoe’s design elements.
Making of Trial Fitting Shoes
The trial fitting shoes are made using the same handlasting and handwelting techniques used to make the final shoe.
Trial Fitting
At the trial fitting, the fitting of the shoes, along with the shoe’s proportions, toe shape, and design elements will be checked and then discussed together.
Fitting Check
The fitting check involves cutting open the shoes and taking photos to understand exactly how the foot is being held in the shoe.
Last Adjustments
The trial fitting shoe is put back onto the last and adjustments are made at the indicated areas according to the information gained from the trial fitting.
Final Shoemaking
The final shoe is now ready to be made. A new pattern is prepared, a new upper is made, and the shoe is built by attaching the sole and heel.
Shoe Trees
The shoe trees for your shoes are made by hand in our workshop according to the specific dimensions of your personalized last.
Polishing
Cream and polish are applied to the shoes so that they are ready to wear upon opening receiving. Patina service is also available upon request.
Inspection and Boxing
During final inspection, the shoes are checked thoroughly before being wrapped in shoe bags and placed in a box made of Japanese wood.
Delivery
Your shoes can be picked up in our workshop, or can be sent to you in case you are not able to visit the workshop again.
